Common Heavy-Duty Modifications

Air Suspension

A lot of older semi trucks use purely leaf spring suspension setups, and although they’re quite capable, they don’t make for a comfortable ride. Air suspension, on the other hand, offers a very comfortable ride for you’re able to adjust the rigidity of your airbags. Do keep in mind that although air suspension has countless benefits, there are some downsides. Firstly, it’s far more expensive to install and maintain. Second, air suspension setups have a lot more fail points than that of leaf spring setups. Overall, we feel as though the benefits are worth it.

Transmission and Oil Coolers

Traditional coolant systems typically use a radiator and engine coolant. Although this has been effective for big rigs in the past, it can limit how much work your truck can do. Transmission and oil coolers are an excellent way to boost your truck’s capabilities. Rather than using coolant to absorb and disperse heat, these coolers use your engine oil and transmission fluid. When you pair this addition with your current radiator setup, you’ll find that your engine can work a lot harder without overheating.

Turbochargers

Most diesel engines come equipped with a turbocharger from the factory. If you feel as though your truck is underpowered, you should consider replacing this turbocharger with something larger. A larger turbocharger will provide you with more power, allowing you to haul heavier cargo. Do keep in mind that a larger turbocharger will have more significant cooling needs, so be sure to pair this upgrade with a coolant system upgrade as well.

How do turbochargers work, you may ask? Well, a turbo essentially compresses the air going into your engine. This allows for more air to enter your combustion chamber, therefore resulting in more power.

Great group of guys to work for! They really appreciate their employees!

Ibex repaired my 2005 Freightliner MT55.  I limped it into the shop, and they were able to diagnose the issue and repair it as soon as the parts arrived (getting parts these days can be a challenge).  The truck has several other issues I need to resolve, and if I am back in the Rexburg/Idaho Falls area, I would certainly do business with Ibex again.

Chanel Quirk

Excellent communication and customer service.  They were able to diagnose our issue quickly, and gave us a quote to know what to expect. The rate for what we did repair was reasonable and seems to be in-line with other shops in the area.
